My current supplement regimen
I am 8 months shy of 50 but people say I look like I am in my 30’s or 40’s.
I do have some aging issues but I put youthfullness down to a few things.
Meditation – at least an hour per day, Diet – mine is not perfect & I could do with a wife but I try & eat healthy, Exercise of course.
Finally is supplements & if you dont use them you are missing out.
Heres what I take at present.
Multivitamin, mineral & herb – most but not all days
High strength B – many days but not most at present as its a super strong dose
Resveratrol – daily
Quercetin – daily
DMAE – daily
Green tea – copius amounts daily
Decaf coffee – one cup per day
CoaCoa – I go through spells of this daily for a while
Ginseng – I try & take Panax daily but sometimes run out, also siberian is great before training
Acetyle-l-carnitine – occasional spells of daily use, its a great nootropic with creatine
l-glutamine – occasional daily
BCAA – occasional daily
Black Ant – occasional
Pine Pollen & nettle – occasional
Colostrum – daily
Beta glucan – occasional
Collagen – I should take daily at my age but its occasional at present
My two favorite places to get supplements: Purebulk & Nutrabio
On a final note I have not had a cold or flu for a long time – well over a year which is unusual for me. Perhaps it was the relaxing rest I had while injured. Perhaps it was the bottle of vitamin D I took during winter or the Vitamin C & echinacea. I dont know which of these did it but I suspect the low stress & vitamin D did the trick.
Longevity Supplements
The following supplements have scientifically proven benefits for extending lifespan:
IGF-1 found in colostrum and deer antler. The affect of IGF on elderly and seniors in pronounced. Greater strength and musculature, better connective tissue and general youthfulness.
DHEA and 7-KETO again these are of great benefit to seniors enhancing androgenic profile found in small amounts in pine pollen.
Pterostilbene & Resveratrol. You most probably have heard of resveratrol, pterostilbene is a super derivative that activates more mitochondrial factors. If you want more mitochondria that work much better take both.
NAD+ is a derivative of niacin vitamin B3.
— Promote Sirtuin Gene Activation (using SIRT1 and SIRT3)
— Enhance The Growth And Efficiency Of Mitochondria, Which Boosts Physical And Mental Energy Throughout The Body
— Optimize Metabolism
— Enhance Cognitive Health And Reverse The Effects Of Aging On The Brain
— Promote Insulin Sensitivity And Encourage Healthy Blood Sugar Levels
— Repair DNA
OK so these represent a good basic anti aging regimen with an emphasis on mitochondria and hormonal profile. There are of course 50-100 supplements you can take to enhance anti aging and brain function.
When you eat food you get a full range of nutrients just in too small of a quantity for any pharmacological effect.
When taking supplements expect the same. A larger range of carefully chosen supplements will be better than just a few.
An easy way to take powdered supplements
I like to get my supplements in bulk powder form as I can get them way cheaper. Like two years worth for the same price as a months retail.
Now normally I will either stomach the supplements from a spoon which is pretty yuck but quick & easy or I stick them in my tea.
Some supps are just too gross to put in tea but others are just fine. Gelatin, pine pollen, creatine for example seem OK in tea.
I don’t drink regular tea I am talking green tea, ginseng tea etc.
OK so sitting at the bottom of my tea cup today was the remains of my gelatin infused with the supplements. I scraped it out & ate it – yum.
So you can make your own yum vitamin & supplement enriched chews out of gelatin. You can sweeten with whatever or not at all.
My gelatin I normally just drink in my tea. You can barely taste it & its fully liquid not viscous. Gelatin needs to sit for a while to harden & you need a fair amount in ratio to the liquid.
With my tea I have a flat tablespoon approximately. I don’t bother to measure it but I do know you should have 1/3 of your daily protein in collagen form.
However take too much & it accumulates in your kidneys where it forms scar tissue.
So do not use collagen as your number one protein source
My current supplement regimen
Here is a pic of the supplements I currently use…
In the foreground is a packet of tribulus from purebulk.com – this will last me for years (until it expires).
Above that are two packets of pine pollen bought from China off ebay. Next to those is a packet of nettle root from ebay.
Then the containers at the rear from the left are Vitamin C, Two containers of acetyl-L-carnitine from nutrabio.com that will last until 2015, a container of Beta Glucan from purebulk, Two year supply of Creatine from nutrabio, multi vitamin, grape seed extract & finally two bottles of colostrum which is abundant locally.
Here’s why I take this stuff:
Pine Pollen
Nettle Root
Tribulus
These are basically my Pro Testosterone & Anti Estrogenic stack.
Colostrum
Contains Igf Insulin like growth factor & I like to let these melt under my tongue.
Vitamin C
Multi Vitamin
Grape extract
Contains resveratrol and quercetin for mitochondria production, general health
Beta Glucan
I take this exclusively to boost my immune system, the colostrum also has immunological compounds as does the multi vitamin.
Creatine Monohydrate
Well you all know what that’s for. Interestingly the Pine Pollen is a complete protein. Creatine contains three amino acids.
Acetyl-L-Carnitine
This stuff is great for the liver and can actually cure NASH – non alcoholic liver syndrome or fatty liver. My liver blood profile is usually out a bit so I take this stuff. Combined with the green tea and creatine it is also a great brain tonic. Pine Pollen is also good for the liver.
I also drink lots of green tea and oolong tea everyday. I cant take all of the supplements in the world but that is why I take what I take.
Can Growth Hormone Boosters Enhance Muscle Growth?
This article examines the role of growth hormones in helping bodybuilders to achieve significant muscle gains.
Many experts feel that supplementation with growth hormones offers exciting possibilities to adult bodybuilders, especially those aged over thirty. They should not be taken by anyone aged under twenty. In the past growth hormone was available only in injectable form but recent years have seen the development of HGH precursors and more advanced delivery systems. The most popular means of taking growth hormone boosters today include sub-lingual spray, homeopathic pills and capsules containing HGH secretagogues.
That’s all very well, but do these supplements have any place in bodybuilding? To answer this, we’ll need to look first at what growth hormones actually do.
Human Growth Hormone is responsible for the regulation of insulin, protein synthesis, transportation of amino acids across cell membranes and fat metabolism. Clearly, these are processes that are of relevance to serious bodybuilders. Users have reported higher energy levels, enhanced libido and greater cardiac output. In addition, superior immune function, lowering of blood pressure and improved cholesterol levels have been documented. Add in other potential benefits like improved sleep, shorter recovery times, quicker regeneration of damaged muscles and you can begin to understand why some experts are excited by the possibilities offered to bodybuilders.
No adverse side effects have been reported when used as directed but persons aged under twenty should not use growth hormone boosters without consulting a health care professional familiar with HGH therapy.
